Asphalt Sealer Calculator

Turn driveway dimensions and product coverage into whole sealer pails and optional cost.

What this calculator includes

Estimate asphalt driveway sealer from measured area, coat count, editable product-label coverage, waste, and pail size. Add measured crack length for a separate crack-filler count, then use optional entered prices for a purchase-focused material total.

How to use this asphalt sealer calculator

  1. 01

    Measure only the asphalt surface

Enter the sealed length and width, and calculate separate sections when geometry or product changes.

  2. 02

    Inspect and prepare first

Measure repairable cracks separately and follow the selected cleaner, patch, crack filler, primer, and sealer instructions.

  3. 03

    Enter label coverage

Select a planning surface condition, then replace the visible coverage with the exact product's rate for that surface and coat.

  4. 04

    Round to full pails

The calculator adds the entered waste, rounds sealer to whole pails, and keeps crack filler as a separate compatible product.

Worked example

Example: 50 ft by 16 ft driveway

An 800 sq ft driveway receiving two coats at 80 sq ft per gallon per coat needs 20 gallons before waste. With 10% waste and 5-gallon pails, the purchase quantity rounds to five pails.

Practical buying and overage guidance

Buy compatible products for cleaning, oil-spot treatment, patching, crack repair, and sealing. Verify coverage, coat count, pavement age and condition, temperature, rain-free window, drying time, application tools, PPE, storage, disposal, and lot compatibility on current labels.

Frequently asked questions

How many square feet does a gallon of driveway sealer cover?

Coverage varies substantially with product, pavement texture, porosity, application method, and coat. Use the exact label rate; the condition presets are editable planning values only.

Should I apply one coat or two?

Follow the selected manufacturer's instructions. Some products call for one coat and others permit or recommend multiple thin coats with specified drying time.

Can sealer repair wide or moving cracks?

No. Crack fillers have width, depth, movement, and curing limits. Structural movement, failed base, potholes, drainage, and extensive alligator cracking require separate evaluation and repair.

When can a new asphalt driveway be sealed?

Do not rely on a universal waiting period. Asphalt mixture, weather, curing, surface condition, and the sealer manufacturer determine when application is suitable.

Does the cost include labor or equipment?

No. It includes only entered pail and crack-filler prices. Cleaning, patching, tools, masking, labor, mobilization, disposal, tax, and professional application are separate.
